The area just north of Brooklyn College to raise a family.

That area is “The Junction” which is actually the intersection of Flatbush and Nostrand. If you go a few blocks in towards Midwood, it’s a nice, quiet neighborhood. There aren’t any trendy “artisanal” new-Brooklyn restaurants and shops yet but it’s convenient and energized. Safety? I have plenty of friends who grew up near there….some right on Kennilworth. If they survived the 70’s, I’m sure your family can survive the 2010’s. Actually, it’s so busy around there, I wouldn’t be too concerned about safety.

Hi, My wife found a listing for a home just north of the college.  I believe it is Ditmas Park, but Ive been told its flatbush and midwood also.  Its on Kennilworth just south of Farragut I beleive.   Anyone with any info on this area, it’s saftey and activites please post on them.  It’s only a few blocks from the 2 and 5 which I’d be taking to work.  Thanks!

Flatbush goes from Empire Blvd., in PLG, to Ave. H, near Brooklyn College; it’s a former (until 1894) town that has many neighborhoods. I think the area you’re asking about is in South Midwood, which is part of “Victorian Flatbush” [but I’m not completely sure of VF boundaries, so would someone please correct me, if I’m wrong]? This is all VERY confusing. South Midwood is actually NORTH of what is now called Midwood [and my own neighborhood, PLG, is at the northern tip of Flatbush and is as Victorian as any Flatbush neighborhood, but isn’t part of Victorian Flatbush]. Flatbush residents learn to live with ambiguity 🙂
