Termite inspector.....I'm looking for

I live by prospect park and my house had termites before and after i purchased. “Retain a licensed exterminator and obtain a termite guarantee or certificate from him.” Regardless of whatever your inspector says, this is always on the must do list before closing. Part of the inspection process. I can tell you a story of someone that purchased a house without termite inspection and the house was ravaged (not a very good situation to say the least). I used ecology exterminating, they seemed fine. Many people in brooklyn have termites, we live on a terminal moraine / outwash plain unlike manhattan. People generally don’t like to comment or advertise that they have termites for fear that they will not be able to sell their house.

Just had a brownstone home inspection. Inspector stated: “Termites A visual inspection of all areas subject to termite intrusion could not be made because most vulnerable areas were concealed. Retain a licensed exterminator and obtain a termite guarantee or certificate from him. The cellar/basement is susceptible to termite intrusion because of the way it is constructed.” Has anyone had any experience with termites in their brownstone? Any termite inspectors you recommend? That sounds like the typical boilerplate assessment. Termite damage occurs primarily when wood is in contact to the ground (dirt.) It is rare in brownstones (but not impossible) as the floor joists are sufficiently protected from that sort of contact. A good inspector would have noted any damage in exposed cellar floor joists or made a notation that there was no visible damage. It’s pretty easy to assess for yourself if you poke around the foundation area of your floor joists. If they are solid, there aren’t termites.

I don’t see a pic of the basement. That said, unless this is a finished basement, I see no need for a sheetrock ceiling. If the sheetrock is new, I’d be worried the seller is hiding something. Maybe not termite damage, but water damage, something non-code or just something the seller wouldn’t want you to see. In our case, seller was hiding so much water damage that three joists looked like toothpicks at one end.

When I bought my brownstone the inspector found inactive termite cells and some damage. Dirt floor in basement, and half of one side of the house is unattached.

When I had ants in my old house I used the services of an exterminator who was a friend of my colleague. But then I moved to NY, so now I don’t know any specialist in this area as I haven’t had this problem again. But I know Hirerush is good website where there is a list of such professionals who do pest control. I used the website when I needed a handyman and a window cleaner, it’s pretty easy and helpful. Hope it’ll help you too.
