Sump Pump Location

The sump pump piping should tie in to the sewer before the trap, location of the actual pump doesn’t matter. Obviously the further from the sewer trap area the more plumbing.

In the process of adding a bathroom to the cellar in the rear corner. It is next to the side wall that has the elevated main 5″ sewer line running to the front of the house. My architect’s plans have the sump pump in the same location as the bathroom and the plans were already approved by dept of buildings. My GC also suggested the same located as it will be easy to tie into the main sewer line. But the licensed plumber is saying this is not to code and we would fail an inspection. He says the sump pump needs to be at the front of the house, just before the trap. This means he wants to run a 4″ line the length of the house from the bathroom to the trap area along the same path as the existing 5″ sewer line, but buried underground. Of course with the mysterious NYC building codes I haven’t been able to find out the answer to this. My architect and GC are adamant they are correct but the plumber disagrees. Has anyone else had this situation? Should the sump pump be at the front of the house, or is it ok at the rear? Thank you.

Perhaps the issue is less about location of the pump then where it is tied into the sewer line, if at all.
