Selling old house details (mantles, pier mirrors, etc.)

We are about to begin a gut renovation of a (circa 1910) brownstone in Brooklyn and we are not sure that we can re-use all of the amazing and well-preserved details: gorgeous pier mirror, wood trestle between rooms, wood fireplace mantles. Does anyone know of anyone who might buy some of these and come to the house to pick them up? Thanks in advance!

I understand your feelings well NP. In this building boom, many brownstones are being gutted to the bones and much of the old detail is often thrown out. However, in recent years it seems to be getting better in my experience. Much of my work has been restoring and or installing architectural detail. I think it’s great that the poster is letting us know these Victorian pieces are available so it will be used by those who admire period detail.

@rachelg, it makes me sad whenever i hear or see someone stripping the soul out of a brownstone. i doubt i can convince you to save it and work around the detail, but your destroying the value of your home. a brownstone with original detail is worth 20%+ more than one without. we are just stewards of these old homes. if a soulless home is what you want, theres plenty of new construction condos and brownstones that have already been stripped for you to pick from.
