School Districts in Crown Heights, BedStuy..

According to Spike Lee, with all of the white hipsters and their dogs moving in to Bed Stuy, the schools will improve and trash will be collected.

My wife and I are currently looking at homes in Crown heights and Bed Stuy and were wondering what folks with kids, or are planning on having kids, who live in the area are doing/thinking when it comes to schools. Crown Heights isn’t exactly known for its excellent public schools and $30k/year private school really isn’t an option for us (if we do decide to have little ones).

Crown Heights does actually have great schools, plus the largest number of diverse parochial schools in the City; not just Yeshivas, but Episcopal, Catholic, Jesuit, Baptist…. So there is plenty of choice. Yes the non Yeshivas are predominantly African American/Caribbean American which is why you do not see them reported in the same manner as “acceptable” for want of a better word. But I know many parents that send their children to them, both Caribbean American & “white” parents , including one in high school attending the Medgar Evers school, who claims her son is doing much better here than a school he was attending in lower Manhattan that is supposedly a highly regarded /respected school.

oh wow, that’s really great to hear resident2! do you happen to know what districts we’re talking about here? From the standard school-ratings I’m seeing on sites like zillow etc all of the crown heights schools are rated quite low.
