Replacing Old Coal Shoot Cover - access to basement

Does anyone know who would build a cover for the old coal shoot (basement access) in the front of the brownstones? I have built two myself out of wood that each lasted three years but, now we are going for metal. Any recommendations would be so helpful as we just got a violation for not having a proper cover – we need one built asap!! All Brownstone owners have them – many I see are metal – but, who makes them?

Try Northeast Fabricators. They are upstate, but did a job for my brother that turned out well. They turned it around quickly for him and were extremely inexpensive. Their number is 888-753-8012\.

I’ve seen some houses where the coal hatch cover has been replaced with a domed velux skylight. Presumably the door at the bottom of the hatch is also removed to allow light to enter the cellar.
