renewed call for iron railing fabricator

I posted on this a few weeks ago. We need new railings for front stoop — traditional black iron, with scrolls, a few twists. Recs I received were Lopopolo and vinnie’s. I did not want to use Vinnie’s because (1) he did our front rail nine years ago and rust poked through faster than I would have expected, leading me to question how well they primed it, and (2) he is crazy and hard to deal with. I have tried Lopopolo but they are difficult to schedule — phone tag for three weeks but never available to do an estimate. They also say fabrication takes 6 weeks after I ive the go ahead. I am tired of chasing them and want railings up before winter. Before I go back to Vinnie’s, does anyone else have any other recs for a quality, reliable iron shop? Does anyone have a tip for dealing with Vinnie’s? Many thanks.

Though we didn’t use him, you might try Gabriel Ironwworks. He was slightly pricey but seems to do good work and was nice to deal with. We had the rare unhappy experience with Lopopolo who I know have a sterling reputation here. Lots of fast-talking and pushiness, scheduling was off by a full month despite endless promises, and in the end they didn’t fully deliver what was specified in the contract and tried to bully us. I think they do perfectly ok budget-friendly work, but ultimately we weren’t happy with our experience.

I have used AJ Ironworks for a few different jobs (2 apartment house staircases, some beams for a building facade, and a building railing).They are nice people and have been around a long time. . Shamrock

Might be the time of year – I had a job with Lopopolo in the spring, no trouble contacting them or arranging times. Ricardo, whose work I actually prefer, is a nightmare to get ahold of any time of year, unfortunately.

Everybody raves about Lopopolo, but like you, I have been unable to schedule anything with them.
