Recommendations for Kitchen Counter Installers And thoughts on granite?

Any recommendations for kitchen counter installers in or around Brooklyn? Thinking of honed granite, or limestone. Lots has changed since we used Corian which was so cutting edge 16 years ago! Thanks all.

peaceout

If you like the durability of granite but want something that looks closer to marble, check out quartzite (which is a natural stone.) We’re getting it for our kitchen and I’m on love with the look. We got a sample piece and beat the heck out of it one weekend- left lemon juice, red wine, vinegar, tomato sauce and oil on it overnight and even the untreated piece did not have a ring or mark on it. We also cut on it, stabbed it with a screwdriver and basically tried to destroy it with little luck. Its slightly softer than granite and feels more “warm” IMHO. We are also getting a honed finish. We are looking at limestone for a smaller bar area, but are not considering it for the main kitchen. It is not known to be durable and is like marble in the way it etches/stains/gets water marks. It is beautiful, though!

We used ATA Stone Works, on Meserole Ave., in Greenpoint, which had been recommended by a neighbor. They did a very good job. Personally, I’d have preferred honed soapstone, or zinc–something that might have been used 100+ years ago that IMO would have been more appropriate for our deliberately 0ld-fashioned looking kitchen, but my wife wanted something that would brighten up the room. Several months later I must admit that the granite looks quite good and is eminently practical. It is also vastly better than the brick-colored GE Textolite laminate that we both thought looked great back in 1974.

I used SMC Stone in Greenpoint for a counter, backsplashes and stone shelf and brackets. I thought they were excellent. Ask for Ming.
