Recommend someone to build new front doors? (Landmark block, sigh)

Hi all, Can anyone recommend someone to make and install new front doors (at top of stoop)? We have to come pretty close to the original look, which is in tatters and totally not weather proof in any way. I’d call a carpenter but then there’s the trick of glass panes that need to be like windows in terms of not transmitting cold. (ie, double pane, i *guess* argon gas inside?) So, it’s like…both a window and carpentry thing? and oh, we have a tiny budget, or at least i am guessing it’s tiny, at $5000\. Any suggestions much appreciated! thank you!!

If you’re aiming to reproduce the look of your original door, maybe you can also try to get a salvaged door and have a carpenter restore it and fit it in place. Rather, engage a carpenter to help you choose the door, and then do the rest of the needed work. I know there are many doors available, from some inexpensive ones in very bad shape, to already restored ones from places like Amighini in NJ.

Look into a trustile door quote from dykes lumber. A MDF door will come out a lot cheaper than a wood one, but even if you go with wood, it shouldn’t break your budget.

Two points: 1\. Do you really need double-paned glass? If you also have an inner door I’d think that weather stripping that as well as the new doors would be enough 2\. Don’t confuse Rick with run of the mill workmen shilling for themselves. I don’t know him well and he hasn’t done any work for me (although he looked at a job I had) but I’ve seen Rick’s work at a job in progress and he’s very good.

Try Oswald at 68 Kingston Ave 11213\. They do incredible reproductions. They’ve only done spindles for me, but they are also going to restore my wooden and glass stoop door in the spring.
