old refrigerator
I have an old Wesinghouse refrigerator in my basement and it won’t fit up the turn on the steps. Do I have to use special steps in breaking it apart, even though I would hate to because it still runs and I assume its an antique. Thank you, Nancy

It was already in the basement when we bought the house and we built up the wall a little where the steps are and that is the problem. But as far as the rest that is what I have been told but wanted to get a second opinion. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Nancy

How did you get it down there? Have you tried removing the door? Can you get it up through the coal chute? Note that once you get it upstairs, you need to call the Sanitation Department to remove the Freon before it can be carted away. If you can’t get it out in one (or two with the door) piece(s), you need to assure that the sealed system (refrigerant) remains intact. Otherwise you will be fined. Alternatively, I assume you can get a certified refrigerant mechanic to remove the Freon and certify that it has been removed.
