Hello, I currently run a business called BloomingSky.com, where we help connect investors to properties that fit their criteria. LOL, NG. I love the pitch. On the phone it is usually something like — “the investor I work for would like to sit down and talk with you about your house.” My usual response: You want to buy my house, tear it down, build condos, and max out the FAR, and you want to know if we will sell it to you so you can do it. Is there more to it than that? them: We’ll we think it is best if you meet and discuss it directly. Me: Well, we are happy where we are and not planning to sell, so we would not take the market price. If your investor offers us significantly above market, we’d listen to what he has to say. resident2, It wouldn’t have to be the City Council. Until about 20 years ago there was a non-solicitation order, enforced by the NY State Dept. of State, that prevented real estate sales people from soliciting business in various Brooklyn neighborhoods including my own PLG. This was a response to the block-busting that had been common in the ’60s. There’s no reason why this couldn’t be done again (except, possibly, that the present state administration is in the pocket of RE interests).

Even worse is that these “buyers” are often despicable human beings who would steal your house if they could. I’m sad to say I’ve seen it happen.

I really think that some Public officials should do something about the vultures out their literally stealing peoples houses, preying on the elderly is sick and our elderly neighbors need to be protected from this. I get angry at the arrogance that they think that everyone is so stupid that they do not know what their property is worth, but many elderly people do not know what their property is really worth and they are being taken advantage of and humiliated in the worst way. Or constantly harassed and hounded out of their houses. Homes that they worked hard to buy and maintain and now in their old age they are not allowed to enjoy them in peace! PLEASE CITY COUNCIL PEOPLE BRING A LAW TO STOP THIS! NOW! No flyers, No phone calls, No ringing of door bells! If someone wants to sell their house they know who to ask for help, they do not need to be hounded into it by strangers…. saving them a commission while loosing them 50% that is theft.

Maybe I’ve got a great lead on some elderly person or someone in a distressed circumstances who may jump on your exciting offer to buy off-market properties! The flyers are sporadic but the calls are far more frequent now than before S. Slope was downzoned eight years ago. Sometime same developer will call home, cell and wife’s cell in same day. Very annoying.

The onslaught of flyers, letters and phone calls is disgusting. Sometimes there is a knock at the door. It really feels like vultures circling. It’s annoying and, in some cases, insulting.

I get letters almost every day from outfits claiming to be able to connect me with “all-cash” buyers for my 2 family home. Its not like my home is listed. These scavengers are finding owner and tax information from the Department of Finance. Why would anyone share their proprietary information with you? Are you offering a share of your business in exchange?

I usually double my “f***-you” price when I get cold calls, and demand it in cash. Usually I hang up after they do : ) The calls and letters are nearly as frequent now as they were during the peak of the bubble.

got a call from someone looking to buy my building yesterday. I asked her where she got my number and she said from department of buildings. They go through the DOB to get phone numbers of everyone who owns commercial/residential properties and call them. Its shooting in the dark but they might get a few hits. You may want to try the same.
