That imbalance is a problem in the system and rarely ever an issue resolved at the boiler. Just saying. You might get a good boiler installation but some additional work may be needed upstairs. Not all service companies perform both tasks. Or perform them equally well, anyway.

Had ours replaced by ZW heating and plumbing, and has been working well since. They were responsive with the only issue that came up (I hadn’t been keeping an eye on the water level, which had crept too high causing some water spitting from the air vents). Ben

You can use http://gatewayplumbing.com/ (Master Plvmber won’t plug his own company here, so I will). You can ask them to calculate the size of your radiators (and the spaces they are meant to heat), the size of the boiler needed, double check the geometry of the plumbing in the basement, and they’ll make sure your lines are vented properly (often the cause of uneven heating). You don’t have to go with that company, but make sure you go with someone who knows how this stuff works. Your off-the-shelf plumber or handyman/contractor isn’t going to cut it. Spend the right money up front, or you will end up spending it in endless maintenance and you’ll never know why. Some home repairs warrant bargain hunting – I would say this one falls squarely in the camp of “lowest bidder might be lowest knowledge/skill”.
