Is the block in between the Tompkins Projects and Marcy Projects a "Safe" block?

I live around there, it’s fine. Things happen inside the projects, but outside it’s not bad at all.

Hi Brooklynites, Firstly, thank you in advance for your help. I am considering renting an apartment at 668 Flushing Ave on the border of Williamsburg & Bed Stuy. I’m a single male and its my first time moving to Brooklyn. This location is perfect because I’m a bike rider and it is close to the WBurg bridge. However, I noticed that the Tompkins & Marcy Housing Projects are located one block away from the apartment. Despite the ideal location, I don’t want to move to this block if it’s not safe to walk around at night. Question: Is this considered an “unsafe” block? This has nothing to do with race, color or creed, I’m simply asking if this is generally considered a safe neighborhood with respect to crime. Check out spotcrime.com for crime statistics at any address. You’d need to gauge how you feel yourself though — visit the area during both the day and the night to see if you feel comfortable.

The last time a drove past Marcy Houses the police had one of their mobile watchtowers there. They usually deploy them in high crime areas so that’s not a good sign.
