How do I get a stray cat out of my garden?

There’s a neighborhood cat that is always in my garden. The cat has a collar so I think it might belong to someone. Any tips on how to get rid of the cat? Winter is coming, so I’m hoping it will go away then. But in the final few days of decent weather, I would like to be outside without having the cat around. And I’ve asked around the neighborhood and no one knows who the owner of the cat might be. Looking for options before possible catching the cat and calling animal control.

If you want to keep it out, at least during the warmer weather, there’s a motion-sensor sprinkler attachment you can buy. It’s called the Scarecrow. You attach it to a hose and and it senses movement, spraying the animal with water. We’ve used one pretty successfully to deter the colony of feral cats our neighbor insists on feeding. You probably can’t use in the winter when the temperature drops. Here’s a link on Amazon. It’s pretty affordable. http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=scarecrow+water+sprinkler&tag=googhydr-20&index=aps&hvadid=36302362419&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6698625654204390501&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_6ge8s9hj69_b

Does the cat have a tag on their collar? You can probably scare it away with some water. He will associate you with things that are not pleasant and stay away from you. Calling animal control will probably land the cat at a kill shelter. Perhaps you should reach out to a local non profit, such as Brooklyn Animal Action (brooklynanimalaction@gmail.com )
