Has anyone made a legal claim against a filing professional?

The office of Scott Schnall filed plans under the wrong filing type (an extension mis-filed under Alt 2) and documented the extension in excess of allowable FAR on the filing documents. These project delays lead to the termination of the construction loan. Love to hear how to handle this.

We used him for our last renovation, agree with the comments about how he’s not for “hand holder first timers” but I plan on using him for any future renovations I use. Appreciate his straight up candor and to the point work attitude instead of trying to bill you for additional “fluff work”.

Hi stonerreader, was considering using schnall for an extension project. Have heard mostly positive things about his office (aside from the fact that you need to double, triple check the work), but this is definitely the worst case scenario. Note that others on Brownstoner have recommended him and that I would not have knowingly chosen to have someone bilk me. I am not sure blame-the-victim was the answer I was looking for. Does anyone else have a recommendation for making a legal claim against a filing professional?

You can make a complaint to the NYS Office of Professions. However if you signed the DOB application (even it was not the correct type of application), the agency may not give your claim much credence.
