Full payment for work

What is called for in your contract with the GC? This is the sort of thing that should be sorted out before work starts, not at the end of the job. We always make sure clients write it into the contract that 10% is withheld, and that all inspections must be passed before that 10% is paid. It’s hard to tell from your post, but you may not have a clear understanding of who has to do what to close a project out with DOB. Speak with your architect or engineer about who’s responsible for what. For a small project, you may only need to pass your electrical and plumbing inspections before your architect/engineer/expediter can get a letter of completion from the DOB. Since you’ve hired the plumber and electrician directly, there may be nothing required of the GC to get the project closed out. GC wants to be fully paid by next week. His permits are not close. What is the rule? Hold on to 10% of the money not including change orders until all permits are closed? I have a contact directly with the plumber and electrician. There permits are not close either

I would insist on holding back the 10% until evrything is done – as agreed in the contract
