Fuel Oil
hmmm… codfuel.com – that’s good to know. I just got the 1st delivery of the season last week (for a multifamily) and paid $3.79 / gal. Coulda saved with the prices I see there. We’re on the regular delivery option during the heating season, where they estimate how much we’ve used based on how cold it’s been and deliver when we need it. With the small company in the neighborhood we’ve used they do a free tune-up once a year and when there’s been no heat they’ve sent someone over at night or on the weekend to get it going. The peace of mind is worth something – not sure if it’s worth $.30/gal. Oil companies want to keep you happy and warm and burning fuel. They don’t necessarily want to save you money – long term the way to save is to convert to gas.

Our fuel oil company Bell Fuel has gone missing. Does anyone have a company they like and can recommend?

I have just about always used codfuel.com – it is a clearing house of sorts that allows you to pick an oil company, which lists their prices, and schedule a delivery. I always go with the cheapest. Not sure if that is the smartest thing to do, but I’ve never had any major problem with the deliveries from any of the companies that are listed. Does anyone else know about codfuel and this business strategy? Is there a better way?

I’m very interested in this, too. We closed on our house in September and just decided to delay the conversion to gas until next year b/c of a series of “you have to bring this up to code” surprises. So now we need to sort out oil deliveries… I assume that the sellers canceled whatever relationship they had and I’m responsible for finding someone. Do you guys do it when you need it, or set up something recurring? Never had to deal with this before.
