Front rail work?

The right way to have this process done, is to Pneumatically scale to BARE metal.Not just scrape. you can never get off all the old paint and rust by doing so. After we scale we Prime and paint with 1-2 coats of paint. otherwise within a few months it will rust again, and you would find yourself looking for a next metalworker. I want to have our front rails (fairly simple design along top of brownstone wall) on the fence, the stoop rails, and three window bars scarped, stripped, and painted. I welcome any rec’s and information on about how much you were charged for similar work. I’ve got rec’s from some neighbors but the one whose work I prefer was kind of sketchy on pricing and nobody else was having the exact work we have so I couldn’t get a feel for the cost.

We paid $2,000 to have top rail on the entire fence replaced completely and everything scraped and painted, including the entire iron fence, the staircase rails, the window bars, and a door under the stoop. Seems like a ridiculous price, but I could only find one company that could replace the top rail, and the whole thing was falling apart. Now it looks great.

Cate, who did you use? Just for scraping and painting, I had a guy quote me $1000 for the very minimal rail above the fence, stoop rails, and three window bars, “for everything” he said. Then he said, “Oh, did you also want the newel post done? That’s at least another $500”. So $1500, for what you had done, minus rail replacement and the stoop gate. Some neighbors told me he’s just kind of shady with women and it’s best if you have a man to deal with him. In all my life I never experienced much of that kind of crap until I moved to NYC, and now it’s every other guy we need to do stuff on the house. It’s very frustrating.
