Fence Height

The garden fence height is 6′ plus you can have a trellis bit above. Which is what I recently built, my annoying neighbor who I built it for, to block them out, predictably filed a complaint. The inspector came out and found no violation.

Anyone know offhand what the law is about fence height? I’d always thought there was a 6′ limit above grade.

I’ll wait for one of the architects here to chime in but I believe the guys who did my yard said 6′ for the SOLID portion but there could be lattice added on top, which they did.

That was my understanding too: six feet so firemen can scale them & trellis that can be easily breached.

Does anyone know if the 6 feet height would also apply to a roof? We need to separate our roof from the two neighboring roofs

Don’t know about roof fences but my sense is that it would be more restricted as the reason for the fence height is so that fire dept personnel can easily scale it, etc. during a fire firemen need to quickly and without obstruction move from roof to roof…in fact i believe parapets cannot be more than 36″ in height…
