Description of DOB inspectors

It depends what they’re there for and if they’re supposed to be meeting a licensed tradesman or not. It’s not uncommon for them to knock or peek around the property and into windows if they’re not met right away by whoever is supposed to be letting them in.

Can someone describe for me what the DOB uniform looks like? Do they have a uniform? Do they drive a van that says DOB on it or are they in unmarked cars? Thank you!

Yes, they always wear uniforms. Light blue shirts with Dept of Buildings patch clearly visible, a picture i.d. card in a holder around their necks, sort of para-military navy-blue pants with external pockets on the thighs, usually black walking shoes, they often carry some type of recording/printing device or shoulder bag. Most get Prius cars to drive around in. I’ve seen some take the subways. I don’t recall ever seeing a van.

Thanks for the great description. Do they usually knock, wait and linger? Or are they peeking through windows etc?
