Countertops for rental unit
I second the butcher block suggestion. We used it in our laundry room and have gotten many compliments. I like how it looks when marked up and aged, but if you don’t, and a light sanding and mineral oil don’t do enough for you, it’s readily replaced for less than other materials. We got ours at Ikea in Red Hook.

I purchased a two family property recently and am renting out the bottom duplex and renovating the outdated kitchen upstairs to live in for a year or two. What countertops would be the best to install for long term use? I’m not looking for the cheapest option since I’ll be living with the countertops for some time and so I want something nice and durable. I’d choose marble if it wasn’t so delicate and chipped/stained so easily. Anyone have experience with quartz?

For a rental unit, butcher block, all day, every day. Easy to get, easy to cut to need, simple to install, inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to replace. Tenants either like it or are indifferent to it.
