We’d like to install pocket doors in an existing wall in our 17 foot wide townhouse. This would involved widening an existing door, etc. In addition to being able to install the doors, the contractor would need some engineering savvy as the wall appears to be load bearing. Any recommendations

Recommendations? Be careful. I recently filled in an opening between two rooms where a wall had been. The ceiling was sagged a good 2 inches and would have likely gone further. I put in some structural framing and jacked the ceiling back up, now straight, safe and sound. Since this was not the first time I’ve seen this, kudos to you for recognizing the condition before grabbing the sledge hammer.
