Contacts of Door and Window guy
Hi we are in the process of renovating our Brownstone and we are looking to update some windows and potentially making them energy efficient. Can you recommend us someone who could give us an honest assessment as to whether the windows need to be replaced (most contractors told us that the windows are fine) and who can make good widows for Brownstone at an efficient price? Many thanks

We just published this article today about insulation for windows, which features tips from two professionals. Peter @ Method Restoration could definitely help you. Find his contact information in the article: http://brownstoner.staging.wpengine.com/blog/2015/11/how-to-insulate-windows/ CM

If you end up replacing your windows,Bay Ridge Windows are great. They are accustomed to brownstones and work all over Brooklyn.

It really depends on what you want and how high you want to set the bar on energy efficiency. It’s not just the Windows, but also install quality and also the overall insulation effort on your build.

If you are cold, it may not be the windows, you may need more insulation in your walls.

You can’t always take everything contractors say at face value, but if “most contractors [who, after all, could profit from replacement] told us that the windows are fine” you can probably believe that.

This sounds confusing, as if you just need someone to reassure you that it is OK to replace them. Is this a LEED or other high efficiency reno? Original wood windows in a landmark district? Many people like replacing their windows, but it may be more for comfort rather than some ROI or cost savings. (Unless they are 100+ year old windows…..)
