Broken Water Meter/Utilities Processors

Why do you continue to work with a management company that fails in management, and is non-responsive to both you and DEP? Why on earth would you take their suggestion to hire another company to cure an issue they ignored? Have you spoken to DEP about changing the name on your account so you can deal with them directly? http://www1.nyc.gov/nyc-resources/service/3148/water-and-sewer-bill

Has anyone ever worked with NY Water Management Company or another utilities processor? I’m on the board of a 10 unit building in Park Slope and we have a broken water meter. We received several registered letters from the DEP requesting access, but when we called the DEP said only our management company could coordinate access because their name was on the account. We forwarded the registered letter to our management company, but they never acted on the letter. We recently received a VERY large bill and are trying to sort out the mess. Our management company has suggested we use NY Water Management to have them help us reduce the fines. Are these sorts of companies useful? Is it really hard to sort this sort of thing out with the DEP without professional help?
