Backfilling a basement

Why fill it in? Yes, move your mechanicals and make them flood proof etc. as much as possible, but the cellar is already built. You have storage, that you just need to keep in mind that you may need to bring stuff up stairs before you evacuate in the event of future storm warnings..

Our house was recently put on new FEMA flood maps. We have been advised to move mechanicals above basement and fill-in the cellar. Anyone on the forum go through the process? Trying to figure out what is the best process in terms of materials and process.

I’m in a flood palin in Bucks County and have had a rubble wall basement flood. Have you actually flooded? If you didn’t during Sandy then it’s unlikely that you ever will. It may be a good idea to move the mechanicals but will you be able to move the water/gas/electric from where they enter the basement? Doubtful. I wouldn’t go through the trouble of all that. Get a sump pump though.
