Any Brownstoners in Cypress Hills?

We just moved to Cypress Hills a few months ago and have been loving the neighborhood — Are there any other Brownstoner readers out there in the neighborhood? I’m interested in sharing neighborhood news, talking about contractors, restaurants, and any other helpful info. Let me know if you’re out there! M.

P.s. I meant like the neighborhood! It’s great. We had first looked in East Flatbush, but after coming to Cypress Hills, we didn’t go back to Flatbush. You can’t beat all the green space here! Or the elevated train. Sorry for the typo!

Hi! Steve, it sounds like your place by the park is great. We looked in that area, but ended up buying just east of For e Tube Avenue. M, like Steve, we live the neighborhood. We bought in September 2013 – two years ago already. The papusa restaurant on Fulton just west of Norwood has great papusas. In a pinch, Crescent Street Coffee shop has ok enchiladas. A great Mexican joint, however, is just over the tracks in Woodhaven on Jamaica Blvd: La Comadre, 75-10A Jamaica blvd. they also have fresh daily Mexican pastries (take them from the racks by the kitchen for the freshest. They’re ok with that). YMCA is a great resource, library on Arlington – I’m sure you’ve found these already. Having a plot in the Highland Park Community garden this summer was also fun. Daycare/school recommendations would be of help to us if you come across something amazing. E

Hi there – We just moved to the neighborhood in May and we’re really starting to enjoy it also.. Everyone in our hood has been super friendly and welcoming. We love our house- it’s on this big hill so we’re terracing it with some concrete walls. It’s going to be great when we’re done and then start some planting. When you walk around there’s lots of varied and interesting houses to look at and some real gems with big porches and whatnot.. Highland Park starts right at the end of the street- it’s beautiful- there’s tennis courts, basketball, bike paths etc etc.. it’s a big reason we moved here.. I’ve been liking the J Train, elevated with a view and reception all the way to Manhattan.. There’s a decent amount of stores underneath the elevated train on Fulton, but nothing hi-end and no trendy restaurants or anything like that. Definitely check out Roti on the Run- sweetest people and their home cooked food and baked goods are delicious.. Of course we’re still exploring so let me know what you’re finding- Cheers Steve
