Ants!

What size ants are they? Are they larger black ants (approx. 1 inch or larger) or are they tiny small ants (approx. 3-4 cm)? I am a professional, my website (www.envirotechpestcontrol.com) and can help you with doing it yourself, just need to know what kind of ant you are dealing with, a picture would be best as well. Thanks. Steven Nardozzi

Is anyone else having massive influxes of ants? A neighbor of mine has gazillions coming in the backdoor. We’ve put out bait traps but there are still so many ants you can barely see the floor in places. First time in 20 years this has happened.

I had massive numbers of them for several years trailing to the front garden door frame and entering a space in the casing that I couldn’t see but never saw them in the house. I tried all kinds of sprays, traps, etc. What finally worked was Hot Shot gel (Lowes). Comes in a syringe. I applied it to the frame where they were entering and within one day they were coming up through the wide plank floor boards in the front room at the garden level. There were zillions dying in the cellar under that room. I applied more Hot Shot between the planks in that room in a few places and in a few places in the cellar. That was the end of the ants. Three years and counting. I bought more Hot Shot to be ready. Although I never saw it, there must have been a nest somewhere within the cellar ceiling; the ants bring the Hot Shot to the nest and that’s what gets them.

Yes, we have had some ants in the past but there are tons more this year and much earlier in the season. Not sure what to do about it either.

Mine aren’t that bad but we have them. I put boric acid powder outside along the foundation where they are climbing the walls and coming in doors and windows. It takes care of the periodic infestations and is relatively less toxic than other poisons.

Mine are back too in my cement porch. Was going to get a professional. Any suggestions for that? Or do you think I can battle them on my own?

Diatomaceous earth works well. It may need to be reapplied if it gets wet or placed in a humid area, but after a few days it gets the job done. It’s nontoxic. I use it in my kitchen and around the apt. http://lifehacker.com/5835163/kill-bugs-with-diatomaceous-earth

I would suggest boric acid, too. I had at a point ants showing up it seemed like everywhere, but when I the powdered around the areas that had cracks where I though there were coming from, it really helped. I’ve also used vinegar mixed with water to wipe down my countertops inside and out which I’ve read that ants don’t like the odor of the vinegar.
