As a new owner of an old building, there is only one means of egress for the tenants on the 2nd and 3rd floors. There is a fully functional sprinkler system, but I was considering providing each studio with rope ladders, to offer a second means. Anyone out there with experience/advice in this?
In my experience (installed sprinkler, Brownstone Co-op) the monthly inspections are random. They can come every month, but rarely do, and will issue citations for anything out of code. We recently had to paint our riser pipes (sprinkler only) fire engine red to comply with these news rules, or get smacked with a $1500 fine. Sprinkler heads should NOT be painted, and need a yearly "test". I would comply with the Fire Inspector as these precautions are set in place for the safety of us and our loved ones.
Sprinkler MaintenanceIf you use a licensed plumber, he should be able to check whether your sprinklers are working, answer your questions and perform monthly inspections, if necessary.
Does our Fire Sprinkler Work?Is this switch for an ansul system? Is the system charged? From the looks of the cable it may be charged. Is it supposed to be touching the rest of the mechanism or waiting for contact. I think you should send this photo to the manufacturer and let them answer this question. good luck
