I am looking for something that won’t chip or will at least not show chip markings like a stone or something. Also anyone have any input on Terra Cotta tiles?

  1. Well if worries about chipping are your top priority, go with something that doesn’t chip – Linoleum, Cork, Rubber, Wood, etc. If you want a hard surface, stay with solid stone – Limestone, Soapstone, Marble, Terrazzo, Polished Concrete. All can be easily repaired if you drop a cast iron skillet on them. Terra Cotta will chip (and crack) and it tends to be laid down with a lot of mortar between the tiles, which acts as a sponge for funk. Looks fine in a Spanish hacienda, but not so much in NYC.
