Does anyone have a recommendation for exterior work. I’m looking to remove permastone and then rehab/replace brick underneath. Thanks.

  1. Yup, the entire finish course of brick will have to be replaced, and it usually is the time to replace lintels and sills also.

I had Jimmy Buscarello do the last one I had, but he can be hard to get for a small job.

The good thing is there are a bunch of yards, a few in the Bronx that sell different colors and grades of used brick, so the resulting look can be pretty nice.

  2. Unless the Permastone was installed over lath (which I don’t think it would be on a masonry building), it was probably smeared right over the brick, meaning that restoration is not an option. You’d be looking at a complete reconstruction of the facade – facebrick and ornament. I don’t have a lot of experience with Permastone, but that is my guess.
