My bath tub has seen better days, it was reglazed at least once I am sure (not by me) and I am not looking forward to ripping the old one out and replacing lots of tile and making a giant expensive mess. The rest of the bathroom is in good shape and needs no work. Does anybody here have experience with drop-in tubs? Do I understand right they simply fit over the existing one?

  1. I’ve been in a drop-in tub once or twice and I found it a most unpleasant experience, like showering in a Dixie cup, pushed into another cup. I think it would likely be a better option to see if a tub refinisher could remove the old finish (they and finish it again. It’s not ideal but really, drop-ins may be the option of last resort.

  2. Thanks.. is it a really horrible thing to do? It seems like a big deal to rip out the bathtub… the bathroom is tiny and renovated except for the tub. Wish it weren’t so but it is!

  3. Do you mean the plastic thing that goes right over the existing one? If so, the ones I have seen look ok but I would not do it unless that is your only option.
