We need to completely redo tbe stoop on our brick townhouse. It is crumbling brick covered in cracked cement. 2 different exterior people recommended brick with granite steps (brick on the mirror). They tell me the granite is not shiny and will look good, but I’m skeptical. I can only picture this look on a very different style home. We don’t want to spend the money on a brownstone stoop and they insist that any other material will need a lot of repair over the years.

Anyone have a granite step stoop that they love? Thoughts? Pictures?

Thanks!

  1. Good morning the alternative to limestone would be bluestone it’s much more dense material as limestone is a sand stone a little more costly than limestone but as i stated much more dense, and the beauty is within the stone weather its is “rock faced” or ” torched edge finish” tumbled granite is nice to but it just doesnt have that old school brooklyn feel to it. bluestone cost would be an average 6 dollars more a foot than limestone. but defenitely brings a certain flare to any brick work – and or stone work. pictures i have as someone stated they would like to see. please note i’m not trying to sell anything on anyone just wanted to share with you the look of material.

  2. it is a 70’s look – but they are going in now circa 2010. obviously there are tradesman pushing it as a cheap alternative.

  3. That’s what it is – 70’s looking. How do you get an updated look for this? Anyone have a picture? I prefer the limestone look to granite, but I’ve been advised it doesn’t keep as well.

  4. I think that look that invisible linked to is pretty 70s. A darker granite would look better.

  5. My neighbors put granite steps in and I also think it would look better on a different style home – far from here.

We are considering having ours done and I mentioned this to some masons whom I know – friends – not people trying to sell me something and I think they told me to put down limestone steps. I am not sure I heard them correctly as limestone is somewhat soft, but it is worth exploring.
