Weird one that I’d welcome your thoughts on –

My heat gently “buzzes” in parts of the house when it’s turned on. Meaning whenever the thermostat clicks on there’s an instantaneous low grade buzz that accompanies it, in only parts of the house. Even within the same room it goes from easily noticeable (if you’re listening for it) to nonexistent.

I’m wondering if it has something to do with the water pressure inside the system. The boiler fills automatically, but last year I had the system drained and the noise didn’t seem to be as pronounced. Any thoughts folks? Many thanks,

  1. It is, but first see if there’s a valve on the outlet side of the pump that you can partially close slowly to make the noise go away.

  2. One, that’s what she said.

Two, thanks both. Is this something that can be fixed by calling my buds at Gateway?

  3. Yes, my guess is it’s what we call “velocity noise”. It’s most often caused by over pumping a system.

    Stop snickering.

  4. I discern a very slight buzz from the rad in our bedroom when the heat cycle clicks on in the morning. My partner can’t hear it. I’ve always assumed it was caused by hot water flowing through the system.
