  1. The guys on 9th St by C-Town were very expensivse last year. $150 for a supposedly 7ft tree. As opposed to the year before $120 for a 7ft tree. And $20 for delivery.

Feeling too ripped off, even a year later, to go back.

Ordering a tree online sounds interesting…

We tried carrying (dragging) the tree home once. Never again.

  2. good info on the farmers market trees brenda… I’m tempted after that endorsement to try them and maybe I can write a check to charity at the same time.

yes, invisible, we usually got to old first at 7th ave/garfield… maybe there are not a lot of churches around that do this, but in my mind there should be.

  3. Lowe’s has a great selection this year.
The clue to keeping them fresh is to drill some shallow, quarter inch holes around the bottom of the trunk & be sure they’re always under water. Tree’s circulation system is in the outer layers – near the bark.

  4. ProfRobert, the Boy Scout oath includes references to God. This can conclude that the organization has Christian leanings. If that is a problem for atheists they shouldn’t join.

Also, you’re coming off pretty high and mighty in here. Surprised you didn’t go on a tyrade about why true Christians wouldn’t celebrate “christmas” and use a bunch of pagan symbols to do so.

    Get over yourself.

  5. Brenda, which Boy Scout values do you like, the bigotry or the hypocrisy? They discriminate against atheists and homosexuals, while at the same time systematically covering up pedophilic attacks. I wouldn’t let my son near that cult.

  6. Home Depot — got ours there last year, it was green and fresh a full month later (of course, you have to water it). Canada isn’t actually that far away, if you’re a tree traveling in a refrigerated truck. And the trees are MUCH cheaper than any of the street vendors. Much.

  7. Unusual maybe but we order ours online from TheRocksEstate.com, the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests, a tree conservation group. Our 6′ balsam is due next week and with S/H it was $68.50–cheaper than anything I’ve ever bought locally. Trees are cut & shipped the same day. Years ago we went to a wedding rehearsal dinner on the estate and had a quick chat with some of the rangers. Great place. Our Christmas tress have always lasted weeks more than anything bought on a Brooklyn lot.

  8. And on Mother’s Day, Clarice, you can hear the roses and orchids crying.

No, the Greenmarket guys don’t deliver; gotta drag that sucker home. Or, if you are a little old lady, perhaps a Boy Scout will help you after he has finished his working on his Hateful Values badge. [eyes rolling]
