Hi,

We’re looking to put new tile down on our kitchen floor and get a new counter top. I want to try and broaden my horizon’s beyond Home Depot as a supplier.

Any tips on good places for ceramic floor tiles or for counter tops in B’klyn, even Queens?

Thanks.

  1. I second Mondial as a recommendation. We’ve done several projects with them and their service is excellent, as is their selection.

Regarding countertop – you might be able to save some money if you are going with a solid surface product like Corian and Ceasarstone. You have to buy those in slabs. Often there are remainders left over and people leave them behind. Places like Mondial that deal in a lot of that material will give you a break on the price if you can use a remainder slab.

  2. I got some of my ceramic floor tiles at Tile Depot, just off Flushing Ave, near the BQE. I found them very helpful and the prices were good.

  3. i’m a big fan of Galactic tile on 3rd ave in sunset park…but dont let the location
make you think it’s cheezy…they have a great selection of both countertops and
all different kinds of tile (the tile leans on the modern side 😉
ask for andy…he’s helped me lots.

  4. Mondial Tile, 65th & 14th/new Utrecht for tile. Also, A&K on 9th, as long as you don’t mind the gruff bedside manner. If you pick a Dat-Tile tile, your contractor can get a reduced price at the distributor on the next block behind HD.

  5. Foro is used by lots of the high-end kitchen places in Manhattan but has the convenience factor of being located in Gowanus. And their sales people are super-nice.

I also like Classic Tile near 86th Street, BK – their sales ppl are a cast of characters though.

  6. plenty of granite places in greenpoint – get out the yellow pages. Go inspect the slabs you select.

  7. I believe we used Palace Stone in NJ for granite counter tops. Did a fantastic job in two kitchens in our building. Good luck!

  8. got our granite counter tops from Marble.com – they were cheaper and no tax since they are in NJ.
