Homeless Person

What to do about a homeless person now that weather is getting colder. There is this little guy living mostly under the BQE overpass. ANother neighbor used to let him occasional sleep on deck before he got stranger – stopped taking meds maybe. I think he may work parttime at McDonalds but is bit dillusional claiming working for some big finance company and says is a lawyer.
Usually harmless but appears to like to peak into people’s windows.
Walks around with an old dog.
What can be done to help?
I don’t know this guy, but I can guess from the comments above that you’re not going to talk him into staying at a shelter – he’d have to abandon his dog!
I don’t know, this guy seems like a real “fighter”, and his dog might attack you if you tried to take it away from him. He’s likely got some friends, as unsavory as they maybe. I’ve seen him looking pretty nice some days, he’s cleans up real good! I’ve even seen him not wearing sweat pants, in a nice shirt and tie!
What Seward says. Call 311, they will send an outreach team to speak with him and offer services. They can be quite persuasive
Sounds like a lot of guys I know. Hey Cgar, if you can’t find the perfect house, you can call 311.
“I am a drive-by peeper too – I love to look into the glowing livingrooms of the the homes I cherish wishing I lived there too”
Me too. Especially when I was living in bklyn hts. oh, to dream!
ohhh – I am a drive-by peeper too – I love to look into the glowing livingrooms of the the homes I cherish wishing I lived there too……
Pete -if this is really a serious post and you actually have had a convo with the guy before – try to see if he will go to the shelters at least at night for a warm bed. If he’s unwilling – agreed you should call 311 to see if they will come out to him to urge him off the streets at night
call 311 – the Department of Homeless Services will send an outreach team to check on the guy and offer him services (including shelter).
I’ve seen the dog, and the dog is very well fed and well cared for – the little guy feeds the dog before he feeds himself. Jussayin’.
“Why would someone steal a dog when they can’t even care for themselves?”
desperate need for unconditional companionship?
desperate need to care for something, anything?
