Can someone recommend an asbestos abatement contractor/company. We will be building up an extra floor on our house and we need to remove about 40 sq. ft of roof that tested positive for asbestos. Thanks! Rob

  1. Denton (and Rob),

Theoretically, if it’s been tested and the test report submitted to the DOB (if this IS a DOB job) then you need to have a manifest provided by the recipient of the asbestos containing material to prove that it was disposed of correctly. In addition, you’re supposed to also have the report from the environmental monitoring company that states that the proper procedures were used to prevent airborne particulate dispersal. This is a separate company from the people removing the stuff.

It’s all quite ridiculous, especially for a small amount like yours. We just went through this on a larger job, and the DOB never requested the manifest or the air quality report, but they could have. In the end, all we had to do was submit another asbestos report stating that none was found.

I’m not going to suggest which route you should take, but the above was my experience, and it sure felt like a ridiculous waste of money and time.

  2. i used abatek corp two years ago. found them on one of the nyc.gov sites (i believe) for licensed abaters. if they’re still around their prices were decent back then

  3. We’ve used Rostyslav “Rost” Rozhanskyy from Rona Maintenance, (917) 609-4869, and were very happy with the results and service.
