My boyfriend is looking into moving into an apartment on Wyckoff Ave near the Dekalb Ave/L train subway stop. I’ve read a lot about the area, and have heard that some parts of Buskwick are okay, while others can be incredibly dangerous. I’m very concerned about our safety, especially because he works a lot at night and would often be coming home at 2 or 3 in the morning.

The plus side: his building is nice and he’s literally steps away from the subway. But with everything I’ve heard about the area and gangs riding the L train, I’m still very concerned.

So my two questions:

1. How safe is this particular part of Bushwick?

2. How safe is the L train at night?

  1. i own in bushwick. am really glad that i bought here. it’s a real nyc neighborhood. there is a coop in the process of being started http://www.bushwickfoodcoop.org. there are three little farmers markets. new businesses opening up at a reasonable pace. everyone i met has been invested in creating a community. there is a lot to the grass roots arts, music, food and activism scene here. it’s a gem and i wish you all the best!!! i’m down on bushwick and greene…on the j, which is supposed to be not as safe as the L, but i have never had a problem.

  3. gangs riding the L train…Warriors style? Now that’s a new one. Not saying gang members dont ride trains. Everyone has to get somewhere. But seriously. THat sounds so overblown.
