We had one of those metal ladder like structures used for attaching clothes lines to in our backyard. A wisteria tree / vine had slowly snaked through it over the years and was like a three story ball of vines. This tree / metal structure came down in the storm and is now leaning into our neighbors yard. It would have come fully down had it not been for the cable wires where it it is now resting now. I consulted a tree removal company (Paul Bunyan Tree) who said they could not do anything with the metal. In order to get at the mass of vines the metal has to be cut and disposed of first. Anyone ever had one of these removed? My thinking is that if the company that removes those structures could also dispose of the vines that would be the easiest.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  1. We had one of those in our yard taken down last year. After the tornado uprooted our next door neighbors gorgeous 80+ year ol tree we commented on how lucky we were that we took it down last year… Our gardener/landscaper who helps us with out yard brought someone in to do it. His name is William Casey and can be reached at (917)887-8507. Tell him Lynn Bassini gave you his info. He’ll remember who he hired to take the ladder down.

  2. Recently, I had been contemplating removing my clothesline ladder. I think it was installed in the year of the flood. It was very rusty and recently, wisteria vines began to wrap around it. When those vines age, they harden into steel!!! So I was afraid it would pull at the ladder and compromise its strength. When the tornado hit, the first thing I looked up at was the ladder. It swayed a bit but not too much. However, it convinced me to remove it. I called Gabriel’s Iron Works on 9th. St. They came out and gave me an estimate of $375.00 and sent a couple of guys out the same afternoon. They were pretty good and removed all of the sections of the ladder (3 story). Just make sure you ask him for his insurance info. He forgot to send it with the guys. Not sure if that was the truth but I let them proceed anyway.BTW…for safety sake, keep a garden hose accessible because they use torches to cut the sections. Good luck!

  3. I love those laundry ladders — sorry yours fell down. What about the cable company maintaining its wires? You’d think they would come and do something.

  4. Wouldn’t it be easier to put the metal back in place? Who installs these things?

  5. Try a rubbish removal demolition outfit like Dun-Rite Rubbish. I know someone posted not long ago about another outfit, so search the threads. Basically these are demolition contractors who are also licensed to haul debris.
