I’ve got about 500 sq feet of red oak I need sanded and polyed. Called one guy who advertises at $225/room. I booked him to do the job after accurately describing it to him and when he arrives he tells me “these rooms are bigger than average” (which is nonsense-scam) The guy tells me he wants $875 instead of $675 so I sent him packing on principle. So, I’m back in the market for a sander. If any of you can recommend someone under $1.50/ft for sanding and 2-3 coats of poly I’d truly appreciate it.

  1. I just rented a drum sander form Home Depot and sanded my condo’s 700 sq ft of floors, and it was my first time doing floor sanding. If you are moderately handy, it’s really not that hard of a job. I have to rent an edger to go around the permitter, and lay two coats of poly, but I’m glad I saved my money. $56/day for the sander.

  2. Try Carlos Salazar (646-281-2659) from Inti Interior Finish & Wood Floors, he did both my floors in Brooklyn and my house in NJ. He also just did a friends place on my recommendation. His prices are competitive and he knows his stuff. Tell him I recommended you.

  3. I had a great experience with Unique Wood Floors out of Queens. I got about 5 bids from the top recs on this site and theirs was about 25% less than the others. Most importantly, they did a great job with some badly mistreated floors.
