I live on the third floor of a 4 floor row house in Park Slope. Frequently through my bath air vent is audible a high-pitched continual sound that is either mice nesting or birds nesting, either in the building or in the air vent, possibly near the roof. The sound is constant for long periods of time.

Ideas? What do I tell my coop management to do; it’s disturbing my girlfriend!

  1. Thanks. If anyone is still reading this, the bathroom and airvent are in the middle of the building depth-wise, and not too far from one side, so I doubt it’s a cornice.

  2. BrooklynCouch- here is a completely different possibility to your noise problem than the ones above. This happened to someone I know — hearing the high pitched sounds from above they thought there was a bird trapped in their attic. Same types of noises as you describe. It was discovered that the battery on their smoke alarm had expired. It emits (sp?) these same kinds of noises as a warning.

  3. Cornice may have a hole in it and need to be covered. We recently had this done for $600 (obviously costs will vary depending on cornice).

If your landlords care about the health of their building, they will appreciate you bringing this to their attention.
