I’ve got these scratches/marks (???) on the bottom of my tub. I’ve tried scrubbing with bleach and various other cleansers and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Nothing seems to get it out. The began to appear approximately a month ago. What is this? How do I get it out/off?

  1. Agree w/ DIBS– try a rust remover.
It may be just that simple.

You may need to reglaze the tub; but
it may not be needed. (And, ooh mercy–
    those fumes!!)

Abrasives should be the last resort!

    Best w/ this!

  2. It does look like fishy! Maybe that’s why the little bastard keeps getting in the tub to play!

Edifice Rex, what is ZUD? Where can I find it? I checked out Lowe’s and Home Depot’s website and don’t see it.

  3. LOL… our cat LOVES our claw foot tub… sits on the bathmat waiting for me to finish my shower every morning, so he can get in.

Luckily, it’s a 100 year old tub so his scratches just add to the patina.

  4. It was a brand new tub when I moved in here 11 years ago, so I guess the answer is that the finish is worn. Crap! So that means there’s nothing that can be done short of reglazing to get rid of it?

BHS, you jest about sandy feet, but I fear one of my cats may be the culprit here. DAMN HIM!

  5. If it’s the original finish it’s probably worn through to the cast iron and those are small specks of rust where it has worn through.
