They dug up my block in Bay Ridge last summer to install the fiber optic cable for fios. Still waiting for the service though.
Not even in the planning stages. A big part of the problem is that alot of blocks have the poles in the rear of the house and so access is incredibly difficult. It may even require court orders for Verizon to get access from homeowners. On top of that they are slowing down roll out. What hit them really hard is having to deploy to low income neighborhoods first where people just aren’t buying the service.
