OK, serious question, and I’m not asking this just to get a rise out of the cat people. I have a real problem I need to solve.
There are a couple of neighborhood cats that have taken to pissing and humping and fighting in my back yard. They like to hang out under the back steps, right next to my bedroom window, and it’s starting to smell like cat piss and they are waking me and my wife up at night. I have started opening the back door and throwing rocks and stuff at them, but they haven’t gotten the point. I assume it’s illegal to deal with the problem the old fashioned way, so I have to resort to other measures. Is there any kind of cat repellant out there? Do I just need to borrow a friend’s mean dog for a while? Any suggestions?
The bleach doesnt do anything but destroy the odor of cat piss and the moth balls are extremely toxic and destroy the liver or kidneys of cats.
You all are so funny!!! To get rid of stray cats and mice, you have to buy bleach and moth balls. Pour the bleach all over where cats hang out and put a box of moth balls down.( that means open the box and throw them around) They won’t pis, play or fight in that area anymore same goes for the mice. You will have to repeat this in 3-6 weeks.
call neighborhood cats or Feral cat initiative, and they can hook you up with an animal trapper that will come and Trap neuter and realease the cats. The Fighting will stop the hormones will dissapate and it will prevent unwanted kitties. If they are your neighbors kitties they they will get free ear tips and a neuter. The cast is very low and your donation goes to the rescuer to compensate for the work.
The feral cats do keep the rodents down. My colony behind the house has brought me countless rats as tokens of their esteem. I didnt even know we had so many rats around.
To all the people who think that killing something will solve your problem, you are sadly mistaken.
A nice bowl of Zerex…
Ooops….
I’ve done the TNR but it’s a major pain in the ass for someone who is not invested in these cats’ welfare and simply wants them off their property. And it’s a fallacy that the neutered ones will keep other cats away. My fixed cats happily allow other cats onto the property to eat and hang around. Maybe it’s the lack of balls. As much as I love my kitties, I wish I never started feeding them.
Good luck, lechacal. Hope you find a solution.
Hey there is a product called SPRAYSHEILD animal repellent. It is a citronella based spray that looks like a can of mace, but is completely harmless to pets. Our dogtrainer recommended it as part of our training program. It is also used to by mail carriers.
It might be a good short term solution and more effective than water. And the little critters will smell better.
You can order it online from http://www.mightypets.com/subcat.asp?0=445 or google it

12345- I DO NOT wear holiday themed sweaters 🙂
slopette- with males the – er- balls are much smaller in neutered males. Unneutered males’ look swollen. With females I think its mostly behavioral- spayed females don’t go into heat but other than that I’m not sure how to tell definitively with a female.
Is there a way to tell if a cat’s been fixed already? Or do you just have to load them all up into cages and have the vet cut them open??
