There are a couple of neighborhood cats that have taken to pissing and humping and fighting in my back yard. They like to hang out under the back steps, right next to my bedroom window, and it’s starting to smell like cat piss and they are waking me and my wife up at night. I have started opening the back door and throwing rocks and stuff at them, but they haven’t gotten the point. I assume it’s illegal to deal with the problem the old fashioned way, so I have to resort to other measures. Is there any kind of cat repellant out there? Do I just need to borrow a friend’s mean dog for a while? Any suggestions?
Devious, d luxx, but makes sense.
I told La Chacale to check out this forum post too.
The feral ones typically look healthy until they are very sick, so it’s hard to tell.
Find an animal rescue organization, and tell them you are “concerned about the welfare” of these stray cats. Ask them if they’d be willing to “work with you” to trap the cats and take them to a shelter. Of course, you would be more than happy to help by allowing access to the yard and making a financial donation to the organization, but you need their help and expertise. You don’t know enough about animal behavior to accomplish this on your own, and you are “scared you might hurt the cats” if you tried.
Of course you are extremely sorry that you can’t adopt any of them because your landlord won’t allow pets, plus you have really bad allergies – too bad 🙁
Hopefully, this approach will solve the problem while still doing the right thing.
I’m having thread-ja-Vu
I should clarify that I don’t know whether these cats are feral. They look reasonably well taken care of, so I suspect not.
With a catch and release I could be catching someone’s pet and releasing it somewhere where it’s just going to be a problem for someone else.
WATER. Big bucketloads of water every time you notice them in the yard.
Soak those little effers and soak down their peezones too.
And this is from a cat owner and cat lover so don’t think I’m being needlessly cruel.
Have the same problem, plus they come to my door and start fights with my cats (through the screen). Animal control advised leaving notes around the block warning the owners the nuisance their cats are creating, and to take control of them or traps will be set in X weeks. Then, follow through and get traps from Animal Control, and take the cats to the shelter. Leave notes saying where the cats can now be found (dont let people know it was you…might retaliate).
you can totally borrow my pitbull if you want. he HATES the kritty krats and was able to get the ones that used to infest my alleyway to leave for good!
*rob*
Catch & release.
