  1. I sure would love to save the mullioned ones….I called Adler Windows from another recommendation and they said they could get 11′ aluminum ones (they were extremely nice and helpful and had me send numerous pics; gotta love that). I mentioned Air-Flo to them and they asked, “Are they still in business?” I am going to try Landmark, thanks so much.

  2. Air Flo is about the most tone-deaf company I’ve run across in a while. You talk to one guy on the phone, another measures, you call another guy to say, “Why is this taking so long?” who then gives you a complete and total bs answer, and then another guy installs. So they’re annoying, but otherwise it was fine. My co-op only allows certain vendors to work here so my options were limited. The product was fine in the end. Just took half a dozen calls too many.

  3. I’ve done quite a bit of wood window restoration in my own house. It doesn’t look like it would be that difficult to restore/repair your windows and convert them to casements. If you are the DIY type, you can find info about how to do this at http://www.historichomeworks.com as well as the Old House Web forums. There is also a great book, Working Windows by Terence Meany. Or if you don’t want to go the DIY route, you could try these folks: Landmark Restoration Services, 917-214-8682. Disclaimer: I found them through an internet search and I have never used them myself, nor do I know anyone who has. Nevertheless, it seems they do wood window restoration of the type that you need.

Your mullioned windows are beautiful, and it would be a shame to lose them. Most defects in wood windows, such as cracks and rot, are actually easily repaired.

  4. I’ve had Air Flo make wood landmark-approved (gaH) little, narrow side windows very much like yours. Not cheap, but otherwise fine. Dont have contact info on me, but you can search here on Brownstoner for #

  5. I posted with the text for this picture, but it didn’t seem to get listed here; I am trying to find a source to custom create windows–double-hung or casement–for the two “sidelights” here. I have given up trying to save those mullioned panels, they are starting to crack and we need the air up there, it’s the only window in the room. I appreciate the help, in advance.
