We are renovating a galley kitchen and are looking for a good counter-depth refrigerator (French doors or side-by-side) and a better-than-average counter-depth gas range with convection oven. So far, we’ve looked at DeLonghi and Bertazzoni (too much $$$) and just the other day, our eyes were caught by the Bosch Evolution 700 Series. Does anyone have any other suggestions? We’re definitely looking for stainless…

  1. 4k for a fridge is something I can live without. think how much of the deficit could be payed off if everyone who thinks they need a 4k fridge roughed it with a 2k fridge or even a 1.5k fridge. spending as much as possible for every single thing we use does not make us better people or make the world a better place.

there is another way to get a fridge to = the depth of the counter – when you are renovating, set the section of wall behind the fridge back further. I’ve done this in a couple of rentals and used the delineation on the other side as a place to start a closet, etc. then you can get a less than 1k fridge that is standard depth.

  2. Counter-depth was our only option in our narrow galley kitchen. And I actually *much* prefer having the shallower (but slightly wider) fridge, because things don’t disappear into the back of it only to be discovered later by smell…

  3. mopar, the really expensive fridges are only counter depth. Usually the condensor is at the top or bottom instead of the rear so that they can be more shallow and not stick out beyond the counter. Otherwise they are 28-30″ deep or so, standard and therefore cheaper.

  4. What do you mean by “counter depth”? In many older apartments, “counter depth” is only 22 inches.

That’s the case in our rental, and I ended up buying the smallest, cheapest fridge imaginable because it was the only one shallow enough to fit without blocking the window.

It’s too bad because the thing isn’t Energy Star efficient and makes mad noise all day long. Even though it’s for the rental, I would have gladly paid a bit more for something better and roomier. We have 42 inches in width, so there’s plenty of room to go wide.

    Maybe an ice box….??
