I’m looking at purchasing a 6-unit building in Bushwick. One is on Irving & Stanhope and the other on Stanhope between Wyckoff & Irving. Any thoughts on the area?
Are there better locations?

  1. rob, it honestly seems clear that you are not familiar with this area. maybe you’ve heard that “bushwick is hood,” but as was mentioned above, these are quiet, family blocks pushing close to the queens border where the streets mostly feel sleepy and well maintained. i’m not trying to portray it with any “rose colored glasses,” but i’ve been in this exact neighborhood for years and am calling it as i see it.

  2. These are both fine locations in general. Obviously, you have to check out the particular block and building closely.

  3. I dont know anything about 188 irving. 294 stanhope looks like a good property, but the owner is playing games and doesn’t seem that committed to selling.

  4. *rob* is known to have detailed and extensive first-hand knowledge of several nabes. He travels extensively. *not*

  5. thanks for the heads up Farkus, i did not see that one yet although i’m waiting to hear back from the broker. have you seen it and if so, whats the inside like? any feedback on 188 irving?

  6. Legion has it on the nose. Look for a three family. Yes, the area shading toward Ridgewood is generally quieter.

  7. If one of the properties you are looking at is 294 Stanhope, beware, it is a very shady owner. They are looking for cash “coming the right way”.

  8. it’s pretty hood. not sure why people are portraying it with rose colored glasses.
