I love the off white in this Paris loft featured in Cookie Magazine some time ago. I use BMoore (Aura) paints generally – as they are so easy for the non-skilled painter (myself), and havent been able to match – or even get a near hit to this beautiful warm off white colour (see pic but if pic doesnt work see link below). Does anyone have any suggestions ? Thanks !

  1. On my monitor, this looks slightly pinkish, like Atrium White.

Why don’t you try a few samples?

Or you can go to Janovic with the magazine page and they will color match it.

  2. Antique White is definitely pinkish. I used it for a north-facing bedroom that doesnt get much direct light and it’s awesome there because it’s warmish but not yellow and a very light color. I thought it was a bit too pink for my central hallway, but it was borderline. Probably no one would notice but me. I used Farrow & Ball “Dimity” for the hallway, which is VERY similar in color but slightly less pink–I suspect it has more colors blended together.

  3. Thanks everyone. I will get some further paint samples over the weekend and try out the suggested colours. Thanks for the tip on the lighting and touch-ups, it had also occurred to me too….

  4. Looks like white on white if you follow the link showing the other rooms in the house. In your photo, you are seeing the way all that light from those floor to ceiling windows is bouncing off the floor and grey furniture. The wall with the windows looks darker because it is in shadow.

  5. I agree with grand army and Mrs. Limestone.

For magazine shoots you would never imagine the amount of retouching that happens (you thought it was bad with models!). However, BM Antique White, OC-83 has a nice pink / warm quality that this image conveys.

Here’s the real trick – it will never look right when you just try it as a 4ft x 4ft splotch on the wall – all of the other existing colors will be too distracting and you will chicken out. You must be fully immersed in a color this subtle to get the true effect. (it won’t hurt if your home gets nice early morning or late evening light too).

Paint all of your trims and woodwork in the same color just bump it up one degree of sheen (just not glossy). Just the top plaster panel of your ceiling should get a subtle shift lighter – either Pompeii; OC-82 or Evening White OC-81.

Let us know how it goes.

  6. We have used BM Antique White throughout our house (especially for trim) and love it. I believe most paint stores — certainly Pintchik on Flatbush Ave & Bergen St in the slope can do this — will match colors across brands. So if you find a color you like that isn’t in the Aura range, they should be able to recreate it for you using the Aura formula.
