Hi,

  1. What type of cellar excavation are you considering? Are you excavating to increase headroom? If so, how much deeper do you plan on going? Over the entire footprint or portion of cellar?
Do you know if your adjacent neighbors have modified their cellars?
I am a registered structural PE and may be able to help.

  2. Electrical work does not need any plans currently (which actually is going to change in July). Plumbing goes under a schedule b. For structural assesments you will need a PE. For references e-mail me at brooklynexpediter@gmail.com I can give you some references depending on what type of engineering issues you have

  3. There is no need to involve an MEP engineer for a brownstone gut project. The architect or PE who files the plans will create a simple plumbing riser diagram and schedule B with fixture counts. The plumber will know how to pipe it without any specific engineering drawings.

The electrician will design his own wiring arrangement to meet your requirements and codes without any drawings.

A real HVAC guy will also be able to design his own ductwork and so on.

Save your engineering money and spend it on better materials and stay as far away as you can from those 30% off Chinese contractors. (And Chinese made cast iron pipe and fittings among other things)
